10 YEARS - ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET! |
It is hard to be believe that this is our tenth year in business, with our milestone birthday fast approaching on Saturday 20th August. And we’ve started the celebrations early by investing almost £20,000 in expanding our range of facilities further and building for the future. Re-investing our profits is nothing new as members and anyone familiar with the club will know, but even by our own standards, this represents major investment considering the testing trading conditions we are operating through. We’ve literally rolled out the red carpet as part of phase one of our improvements, with the gym now being as complete as it ever has, with at least 50 users now being able to train at the same time. Not only will the changes help us keep up with current demand, but they prepare us for the way we see the fitness market heading. For starters we have our new functional training area, with two levels of traditional exercise equipment for users to tone up and improve their core strength. Then we have our power rack, complete with Olympic bar, a superb and versatile addition to our strength range of equipment. Our free-weights area has been relocated to a completely separate area of the gym to extend it’s capacity, with extra heavier weights added too. Looking again to the future, we have now completed modernising all electrical fittings in the building, which has meant greater energy efficiency, and a much improved standard of lighting. The biggest energy efficiency savings will come though with the replacement of our antique oil-fired heating boiler with our conversion to gas, and users will be able to enjoy a better service safe in the knowledge we are doing our bit for the environment. And finally, we have a new tanning studio, which is now sitauted on the ground floor. > |
NEW SIGN GETS THUMBS UP FROM MEMBERS |
Tuesday 18th January 2011 Think Fitness were lucky enough to have their application for SBC's Shop Front Improvement Grant Scheme accepted, and the entrance to the building now sports a new, modern, sleek sign supplied by local company Wilson Signs. The sign has really tidied up the building replacing the old, tired looking sign that was originally there from the club's launch in 2001, and the new frontage hasn't went unnoticed by members. Co-owner Stuart Oliver commented "Members have been very complimentary about the new sign, and now we have the floodlights added, the building looks even better at night and is a bit more user friendly, as the street lights aren't the best on O'Connell Street." "As part of the scheme we also got money towards getting the windows painted, so now the weather is a bit milder, we can hopefully crack on with that and complete that phase of our ongoing programme to improve the club. The next phase is to overhaul the old, dated lighting in male changing rooms and the Jock Thorburn Fitness Studio in conjunction with the Energy Saving Trust, replacing it with new, modern, cost-effective fittings and bulbs." "Over the last few years, we have reduced our electricty output drastically, but there is still room for improvement, so this work will bring us close to be as efficient as we possibly can be. The next stage will be to replace the oil-fired boiler we use to heat the water, as recent rises in the price of heating oil have seen prices soar by over 45%, which is crippling for any company in this current climate." > |
GAIT ANALYSIS REVIEW |
Tuesday 18th January 2011 Specialist running company ‘Run 4 It’ who have five shops in Scotland were at Think Fitness at the back end of last year to provide free gait analysis to both members and the public. By filming each individual the specialist advisors were able to evaluate users running styles, identify individual needs and requirements, and then prescribe the correct footwear to improve performance and lessen the likelihood of injury. All the ten-minute appointment slots were taken up, and every participant learned more about running style, with many finding out they were running in footwear that wasn’t suitable for them. Co-owner Greg Dalgleish explained “Some of the participants despite normally running in well known branded trainers as a result of the analysis realised they were in totally inappropriate footwear for their particular style, which in turn was putting enormous strain on various leg muscles. In these cases, the problem was identified and recommendations made on what style of shoe gives more support and lessons the chances of injury.” Participants also benefitted by receiving a voucher that gets them 15% of their next footwear purchase. Anyone interested attending future free analysis sessions at Think Fitness should e-mail info@think-fitness.co.uk. > |

JAMIE GINGER PIPS KEV TO WEEL-KENT FACE TITLE |
Sunday 22nd August 2010 Like last year’s competition, it was another nail-biting finish, with the tightest of two-horse races between Jamie Ginger and Kev for the title. In the end Kev managed to close the gap in the voting stakes that week by six votes, but it just wasn’t quite enough to ctach Ginger who peaked at the right time to be crowned 2010 ‘Weel-Kent Face’ winner, winning by 46 points. Indeed since the new voting and points system came into play in 2007, this year’s competition has been the most popular in the voting stakes, and the 5653 votes cast during the competition was more than double the amount cast in last year’s competition, easily beating 2007’s 3590 votes and 2008’s 4756 votes, which were won by Bobby and Nicola respectively. Hawick News sales were up on last year, Johnston Press Group’s best selling local paper even actually sold out over the weekend. Third placed Sandi would have won the competition most other years with her total, so Kev must’ve been gutted to not win with the total he had. Think Fitness Co-owner Stuart Oliver commented “There is certainly no waning in the popularity of this competition. Love it or hate it, it gets people talking in the town, and folk vote in their droves. Last week alone almost ten per cent of the population voted, and there wasn’t a Hawick News to be had, which says it all really”. “On behalf of everyone at Think Fitness, I’d like to thank once again all the task hosts who give up time and resources to make the competition the experience it is, and of course to this year’s gang of ‘faces’ who were as popular and as colourful as ever. As it turned out, whoever won out of Ginger and Kev would’ve thoroughly deserved it as would’ve Sandi to be fair, and I have to say gutted for Kev as he led for so long and was a great competitor. I am delighted for Ginger though as well, as he done everything with smile on his ‘face’, got stuck into every task, and made everyone laugh with his droll comments. Winning the ‘Weel-Kent Face title may even push him up the pecking order to be Cornet next year!” > |

NEW CLUB WEB-SITE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED |
Friday 7th May 2010 Welcome to our all new web-site. Over the years we've had our fair share of problems with web-sites. From our very first 'Microsoft Frontpage' site in 2001 progressing to our impressive flash site in 2003, we then kind of stood still due to the fact we never had the knowledge to properly manage these sites, and therefore relied on others to do so on our behalf. We had a web design and hosting company go bankrupt with the owner running away never to be seen again, we had a one man band who took over the site vanish into thin air, and in both cases we were left in limbo. Put off by our experiences, we've had a couple of years with just a holding page, with a link to a Bebo site, but now that is gone. We've always wanted to be able to control and manage our own site, but we've never had that knowledge until now. Thanks to Aly Worters at Pictogram Digital, we've quickly been able to formulate our ideas, and come up with a design and build that allows us to use our web-site as a business tool, rather than a point of reference. So please visit us regularly for the latest Club News, Gym Challenge information, Special Offers, and Class Timetables. If you have any suggestions regarding the web-site please do not hesitate on e-mail us, info@think-fitness.co.uk as we'd be delighted to hear from you. We hope you enjoy the changes. > |
